And …
Besides staying up till all hours to watch the rugby this weekend, we also played host to Bob and Sandy, some friends from The Dalles:

They’re here in the second week of their Australasian tour, which seems to be going just fine. After their action-packed tour of Christchurch Saturday morning, we took them up the Port Hills to catch the sunset

Which I have to admit was pretty danged nice

Then we had a nice dinner at what is supposedly the first “retro-Kiwi” dining establishment. It seems the kitchy retro-50s diner template has finally made it across the Pacific. Sadly, though apparently accurately, they serve only fish-and-chips and roast lamb. OK, just kidding, they also have sausages, which come in the large (“sav”) and small (“cheerios”) formats, available either boiled or breaded and fried.
Anna also wrapped up her winter football league with a little pick-up game and barbecue.

Yes, I’m also disappointed that she hasn’t taken up the rugby, but our medical bills have been much lower.
Spring is finally springing!

Right Family, wrong daughter, but if Anna did want to become a rugger, too, it would make daddy very proud. Oh, and England will kick NZ’s butts again this year. Though with Johnny W. only a possible you might have a chance.

Hey-oh! Who won the Rugby?? It may have been posted in our papers, but since I generally skip the Sports page… Love the close up of the dirt ad!
Great trip all around, thanks again!!

With three of the four pool play games over, it’s been NZ over Italy 76-14, NZ over Portugal 108-13, NZ over Scotland 40-0. Romania this weekend, then into elimination rounds for most of October (yes, it really goes on that long).
For what it’s worth, the US lost to England 28-10, and lost to Tonga 25-15, with Samoa and South Africa to come.
Much more importantly, William Hill, which is apparently a betting organization in the UK, is paying 7:2 on a double of NZ winning the Rugby WC, and Kiwi Lloyd Jones winning the Man Booker Prize for his book “Mr Pip”. Really.
