Ahem . . . Aaron amassed so many good son-in-law points escorting Anna’s parents around the south island that apparently he thinks he can squander a few of them. As the photos were downloading, I believe I heard a chorus of “Ouch! Bad photo! Squinty eyes! Makes me look pregnant!” when that photo of Bob, Nancy and Anna showed up. So of course that is the one on the blog. Well, we will have our revenge! There is a “back” story to that picture of the weka, which I would share if I could upload the photos with this comment. Suffice to say, a certain young man is enticing said rat-like bird to pose for him, offering cracker crumbs and other blandishments. (Aaron: 12/23 Cape Foulwind, and 12/26 at the spider/crazy paving cave parking lot). Then there is a great one of Anna, Aaron and Bob stuffing their faces (check out the 12/24 Heaphy track photos Aaron!) Can’t believe there is only one of those, as we seemed to need to stop for treats (nut slices, fruit slices, tan slices, oaty slices, . . .) every two hours.

Seriously, what a wonderful trip! Many, many thanks to Anna and Aaron for putting up with us.

Ha ha. It's actually a grungy holiday park in Hokatika. 'Twould have been less grungy but poor old Hoki was hosting some sort of four-day rave the next day and the park was wall-to-wall with white dreads.

We did spend the four days over Christmas at said hotel in Karamea. Somewhere there's a picture of us cooking Christmas bread on their barbie...
