Father’s Day

This Sunday was Kiwi Father’s Day (er, that is, Father’s Day in NZed, not, oh, never mind). This is all a bit new to me, but Anna claims the Father’s Day tradition includes long hours of sweat and toil in the garden, then maybe pizza if you’re nice.

(we almost had the neighborhood kids convinced we were digging for dinosaur bones. they really wanted to help)

Aw, do I have to be nice?

(we actually dug out the rest of the bed, all the way down to the mailbox, but I was unable to stand upright long enough to take a photo…)

Hey, nice manure! Are you having an early spring? Your lawn is looking rather… posh.

    Oh, that’s not manure. It’s Supa-Gro! It’s Supa!

Hm. Yes, spring is definitely in the air (the trees have known that for weeks), but it’s very temperate here, and a long, wet winter has turned our lawns into jungles.

Did Anna authorize profile view? I thought you were pretending to be nice!

Oh my! My back hurts just contemplating this. So did the clumps of bulbs and perennials go back in? Get relocated? Recycled? And how is the asparagus doing?

The clumps of bulbs got saved – Until the very end when even I got tired of retrieving grape hyacinth bulbs out of the dirt clods. We’ve also moved some peonies and assorted unknown bulbs/corms/rhizomes out of the next bed down the driveway. Replanting the bulbs has …er… taken a bit longer than envisioned. Every pot, tray and plastic storage container we own has been pressed into service for temporary storage.
