Well, maybe summer isn’t quite over…

Well. Summer is officially at an end.

When the wind rises in the trees and the rain lashes at the windows, there’s only one thing to do, and that’s huddle round the hearth and hope that you can find enough beans to last until the supermarket opens in the morning

Careful little girl. if you miss any, the boss lady is going to confiscate your gruel.
These bib overalls lasted just one day at Castle Hill.
I’ll patch them, but there’s not much butt-fabric left. It’s a shame they are (were) the cuteness in an Oregon Country Fair sort of way…

Hm, time for a letter to Cactus, I think…
I’ve got a photo backlog and a creativity block, so with minimal commentary here are some photos from our recent trip to the Kura Tawhiti conservation area (aka Castle Hill).

After a week of tension and anxiety, we finally succumbed to “the shoulder season” and escaped from Christchurch to find the last dregs of summer. Nine days later, we’re back from Golden Bay and, sigh, must remember to boil the tap water before we can use it. Sigh.
Step one, cup of tea. Step two, sort the photos.

“What is I doing mama?”
“I don’t know, what are you doing?”
[caressing her cheek with a cube of cantelope] “I feeling it”
“I see. What does it feel like”
[concentrating] “It feels like melon”
“Oh”

The city council has decided that it’s time to chlorinate the city’s water:
“From today, we will begin chlorinating the city’s water supply…
[200 words that boil down to 'look this is an emergency. keep your pants on']…
“The water supply is expected to be chlorinated for a number of months.
However Christchurch is committed to an untreated supply and once Ministry of Health and city engineers are happy that the water supply is secure and wastewater damage is under control, then the decision will be made to remove the chorine from the water and return water levels back to normal.”
Whatever will they think of next?
